NO MORE citizens shall die on the city's roads at the expense of the government. These words were echoed by scores of Delhiites as they staged a candlelight protest at Central Park in Connaught Place on Sunday What started as a protest by a handfill soon turned into a big commemoration, absorbing random visitors in the park in the campaign. Protestors denounced Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and shouted anti government slogans. "When we started this protest, we were a total of 20 people. About 50 more have joined us here and we are finding more supporters with each passing minute," said Bhavani Shankar, a protestor, adding, "If you think we are protesting against the government, you are missing the point. This is an uprising against the bad running of the government, not the government. The purpose of this protest is to highlight the acute crisis of governance in the city. There are citizens dying on the road day after day and nothing is being done. It is shocking how 96 people have been mowed down by Blueline buses in the last eight months," said Manoj Mishra, convenor of Yamuna Jiye Abhiyan, another issue touched upon during the protest. Citizens observed two minutes' silence in remembrance of this year's 96 Blueline victims and pledged they would do something to bring about a change in the system. "We must let the government know that if it will not take steps to improve things, we, as citizens, know how to make our voices heard," said Kapil Mishra, a protestor.

Delhi as a city is bent on throwing out its poor, destroying them and building a city just for the rich and the affluent.

Walk down the streets of Delhi in the middle of the night and you will see thousands of workers, dead with exhaustion, sleeping on the roads, on pavements, on carts. There are hardly any shelters in Delhi.

At signals, women with drugged, near-dead babies slung across their pregnant bellies, beg with glazed eyes. There is not a single night shelter for women in the whole of Delhi.

People live in slums in the most deplorable conditions of sanitation, electricity, water, quality of shelter।

The homeless have only Delhi's harsh weather, the boots of drunk policemen and sexual abuse, especially for the women and children।

What kind of city is Delhi?

From the moment you step out on the roads to the moment when you think that you are in the privacy of your own room, Delhi invades you.
The air you breathe is so polluted, it is surely and slowly killing you.
the bus conductor may just crack your head open with a crowbar,
you will watch women being molested on the bus,
you will see stupid men behind wheels kill each other on the roads due to rash driving,

you will see the worst forms of exploitation of the poor and the powerless,

you will hear college students endorsing sexual harassment on TV, politicians endorsing hatred and violence,

you will come home to brown water gushing from your tap and you will sleep drenched in sweat because there is no electricity।

This is your usual day in Delhi and none of this is unusual। This will happen to you almost every day.

But what is most shocking about the city is its average empowered citizen. This citizen is a selfish, unthinking, self-destructive creature, who cannot think beyond himself/ herself and does not see how that mode of being is slowly killing him/ her. Delhi's problems - pollution through vehicles and industry, lack of drinking water and electricity, road accidents - affect all its citizens across class, caste and gender barriers, though it doubtless affects the poor more. WHO IS RESPONSIBLE?

WE DON'T WANT TO BLAME ANYONE, WE TAKE THE RESPONSIBILITY TO CORRECT IT ALL...THE BEGINNING SHOULD BE FROM IMMEDIATE REMOVAL OF GREEDY OLD LADY AS C.M. OF OUR DELHI...WE NEED SOMEONE WHO CAN DELIVER... WHOSE ONLY MOTIVE IS NOT MONEY... WHO CARES FOR COMMON MASSES...

YOUTH FOR JUSTICE DECLARES THAT STATE GOVT. IN DELHI HAS LOST PEOPLE'S CONFIDENCE AND IT HAS NO RIGHT TO CONTINUE IN POWER
WE DEMAND IMMEDIATE REMOVAL OF SHEILA GOVT. :-

AS TOTAL ADMINISTRATION OF OUR CITY HAS FAILED.

AS GOVT. IS CONCENTRATING ONLY ON GAMES AND IS PLAYING GAMES WITH LIVES OF 1.5 CRORES COMMON PEOPLE OF DELHI

AS NO ONE FEELS SECURE IN THIS CITY ANYMORE

AS WE HAVE RIGHT TO SURVIVE

AS WE CANT TOLERATE IT ANYMORE

AS IT IS A QUESTION OF LIFE OR DEATH
